At Knapen Trailers we are receiving a rising number of requests for large volume combinations. We have already built many different versions of the Long-HGV trailers in the past years. In cooperation with our Norwegian dealer Trailerpartner AS, a special combination has now been added to the list: a unique EXSIDE - Long-HGV combination!

 

The customer from Norway was looking for a multi-functional HGV combination, consisting of a lorry with a dolly and a trailer. The regulations in Norway permit vehicle combinations with a total length of 25.25 m to be driven. In close consultation with the customer, this exceptional HGV combination was configured and constructed completely according to their specifications. This was the first time Knapen Trailers was asked to build a lorry with an EXSIDE body.

 

The main advantage of this HGV combination is its multi-functionality. This results in lower CO2 emissions and considerable cost savings. As this combination can carry 52m³ (more than 55%!!) more than a standard truck with trailer, the savings on fuel and labour, and the reduction in CO2 emissions, are significant.

 

Another advantage is the huge flexibility. The EXSIDE trailer can also be connected to another truck if necessary. The lorry with EXSIDE body and dolly can also tow a different type of trailer. Due to the very long distances in Norway, it is important for transport companies to be flexible.

 

The EXSIDE therefore offers the perfect ideal solution for multi-functionality. The EXSIDE trailer with side doors is a unique proposition in the market as the mid post between the side door openings can be slid completely to the side. This creates an uninterrupted opening of approximately 12.9 metres over the entire length of the trailer. The optional liftable upper beam creates an additional 30 cm of working height. As the beam can be rotated above the rear doors and the bars, the trailer can also be easily loaded with a crane. These features make the EXSIDE ideal for transporting goods such as pallets and big bags, bulk cargo, but also long indivisible loads and cargo of different lengths.

 

The rubber seal in EXSIDE doors consists of one continuous piece. This seamless rubber prevents fine bulk loads from spilling out of the trailer, so that wood chips or other fine cargo up to grain size soybean 50 can also be transported. These unique features offer transport companies greater scope to carry almost any load and cut back even further on empty transport kilometres. Taking all this into account, it's no wonder that Knapen Trailers won the Trailer Innovation Award with this unique model in 2021.
