Drivers’ Ease & Safety is an important spearhead of Knapen Trailers. Ease and safety also motivated Wiegand-Glas to choose a system with an integrated air bag in the roof sheet when ordering a number of new Knapen moving floor trailers.
In wet and wintry weather conditions, water, snow and ice that accumulates on the roof sheet can cause hazardous situations in traffic. Large sheets of ice or masses of water may fall off the trailer while driving.
An integrated air bag in the roof sheet is a safe solution to avoid these situations. When the trailer is parked, the air bag in the roof is inflated to prevent water, snow and ice formation on the sheet. The system safeguards drivers and their environment and reduces wear on the roof sheet caused by the extra weight of snow, ice or water. It is also a good alternative to curved bars or a pipe in the roof sheet. This option is within the legal standards and does not negatively affect the load volume of the trailer.
A round air bag of 175 mm is positioned centrally in the roof sheet along the full length of the trailer. With the push of a button, the bag is filled with a pressure of 0.05 bar via the air supply of the trailer in just a few minutes.
The fully inflated bag raises the roof sheet by 175 mm to form a ridge over the entire length of the trailer. This creates a slope on both sides of the trailer. The system holds the pressure for up to a week.
This practical solution can be ordered immediately. It is suitable for use on Knapen moving floor trailers with a manually operated roof sheet. The complete system weighs just 25 kg. This option can also be retrofitted onto existing trailers with a manually operated roof sheet. The trailer must also have at least four bars to ensure the pressure is distributed properly. A roof sheet with an air bag is less suitable for transporting scrap or sharp loads.
