1984 - The very first moving floor trailer in Europe
The takeover of Knapen's Wagenbouw from his father by Piet Knapen in 1984 signalled the birth of Knapen Trailers. At that time, there were no aluminium constructions.
The first moving-floor trailers weighed as much as 14 tonnes!
In 1988 Knapen Trailers, based in Deurne in the Netherlands, came up with a clever invention that you can still find in every moving-floor trailer today: the well-known self-supporting design that saves you a lot of weight. The self-supporting construction made the moving-floor trailer really interesting. The volume rose from 80 to 90 m³ and the weight dropped to 7,980 kg.

In the context of the era, this was a revolutionary concept. Knapen Trailers was the first moving floor trailer manufacturer to develop and produce a moving floor trailer with side doors.
We were the first moving floor trailer manufacturer to produce an LHV combination with a moving floor at our factory in Deurne. This 25.25 m long combination consists of a lorry and a dolly.

After four years of development and testing, the EXSIDE arrives: A moving floor trailer that thanks to the widest possible side door opening and simple construction makes all previous models and versions superfluous.
The pioneering innovative design of the Exisde has been declared the winner of the Trailer Innovation Award 2021 by the 15-strong expert jury. The Exside was deemed revolutionary because its totally new concept is superior to all existing moving-floor trailers with side doors.
